Primary Constraint: maintaining alignment, elevation, and structural integrity between new and existing construction.
The Guenther Residence addition was a full-scale expansion built into two existing structures, where the primary challenge was not just execution, but integration. Tying new construction into an existing home requires exact control over elevation, layout, and structural alignment. Small errors compound quickly, and there is very little tolerance for drift.
From the outset, the focus was on sequencing and control. Foundation work, framing, and structural tie-ins were approached with the understanding that each phase would dictate the success of the next. When field conditions introduced discrepancies, including a slab elevation issue discovered post-pour, the solution required decisive correction. The slab was cut and adjusted to bring the structure back within tolerance rather than accepting a cascading compromise.
Throughout the project, coordination across trades remained critical. Framing, stucco, flooring, and finish work were all executed with an emphasis on consistency and long-term durability, not just visual completion. Inspections were passed cleanly, and the project moved through to occupancy with standards intact and the clients thrilled.
The result is a seamless addition that reads as part of the original home, both structurally and visually. More importantly, it reflects a disciplined approach to construction where problems are addressed directly, and quality is maintained under pressure.
